Museum as Carrier Bag: Practices for a Living Museum is a processual symposium that proposes conceiving the museum as a space in transformation, traversed by plural temporalities that exceed the institution’s linear rhythm.
Structured as a long meal—an endless Sunday lunch unfolding across different spaces of the museum—the symposium takes the processes of ingestion, absorption, and digestion as a methodological device, opening onto a non-productive temporality shaped by waiting, transformation, and care. At its centre lies a reflection on the concepts of the living museum and the museum as a permanent draft, and, more specifically, on the practice of multispecies mediation as an ecosystem in which human and non-human presences coexist according to dynamics of interdependence that evoke forms of commensalism, mutualism, and parasitism. Through workshop sessions, pseudo-lectures, and informal exchanges, all organised around the sharing of a collective meal extended across time and space, the project positions itself as a prototype of a porous institution in which coexistence becomes a situated practice.
The project is curated by Lisa Andreani, contemporary art curator and fellow at Scuola Piccola Zattere, in dialogue with Fabio Cavallari, chef at ABC Zattere, artist, and member of the collective Barena Bianca; Jacopo Giacomoni, dramaturg, performer, and saxophonist; and Caterina Rossato, artist and PhD candidate.
The symposium is part of the public programme The Museum in Draft: Provisional Formats for Multispecies Mediation, curated by Lisa Andreani.
