Ridotto
The Ridotto is an open and versatile environment. As an always-accessible space for gathering, primarily dedicated to our younger audiences and to educational activities, it simultaneously allows for the exploration of new ways of welcoming and interacting with the public, inviting play or rest, planned or spontaneous exchange.
Andrea Canepa (Lima, 1980), the first artist-in-residence at the Scuola from November 2024 to February 2025, was commissioned for this space. Canepa works with installations, sculpture, video, and performance with a particular sensitivity to design, dance, and play. Her projects highlight the formative value inherent in the interactions with the spaces we inhabit.
For the Ridotto she conceived Geometrie del possibile, an environment designed to increase perceptive awareness and the solicitation of bodies. The spatial composition is inspired by geometric floor patterns to explore the infinite potential of elements that are only seemingly rigid. The structures do not dictate but invite, leaving room for the randomness of play, allowing for free movement and continuous recompositions of the space.
A first part of the installation is inaugurated with the activation of a performance component entitled Le Forze d’Ercole, inspired by an ancient acrobatic competition part of Venetian vernacular history. The project will be further developed by the artist during the months of her residency, including through the opportunities for experimentation offered by the educational activities.
