The art of uttering words without appreciable movements of facial muscles is employed in theatre as a device to radically interrogate the bodily event of language, the functions of speech taking, the (political) posture of the speaker by highlighting forms of control and subjection.
With its effects of dissociation and diffraction, the ventriloquist voice crosses the body and marks the scenic writing in order to pose ‘problems’ of its functioning. Piersandra Di Matteo, through the analysis of cases taken from the international scene, traces a path in which the voice reconfigures itself as the instrument to probe the margins of the performable.

Piersandra Di Matteo, in conversation with Edoardo Lazzari and Stina Fors, presents her book A bocca chiusa. Effetti di ventriloquio e scena contemporanea
The event is in collaboration with PerLa | Performance Epistemologies Research Lab, IUAV.

Attendance to the meetings of PerLa grants 2 ECTS credits for Master's students in Visual Arts and Theatre and Performing Arts. For more information: [email protected]
