Archiving Echoes

Cristina Kristal Rizzo

26/06 — 20/07/2026

Workshop

Archiving Echoes is a workshop led by choreographer and artist Cristina Kristal Rizzo in collaboration with Lucia Amara, currently in residence at Scuola Piccola Zattere.
The workshop unfolds through two two-day sessions taking place between June and July.
During the study sessions, the artist’s archive is opened much like a house whose guest is invited to enter and move through its rooms. Covering a period from the late 1990s to the present day, the archive is brought into the here and now through the transmission of embodied practices, critical thinking, storytelling, and writing. The aim is to reactivate an artistic heritage that is inherently ephemeral, yet potentially oriented toward indeterminate and future-facing scenarios.
In this way, a collective process is set in motion, through which the working methods behind a selection of Cristina Kristal Rizzo’s projects are shared: from her earliest solo creations, through more recent ensemble productions, to her most experimental formats.

GRACE and EXPANDED CHOREOGRAPHY
At the heart of this research lies the concept of grace, arising from the need for new modes of production grounded in unconditional hospitality, beginning with the etymological connection between the words grace and gratuitousness (that which is freely given). Grace does not correspond to an ideal; rather, it is a particular organization of force and freedom. It transforms performative virtuosity and the logic of domination into an invitation to disappear from systems, to make them permeable, and to undermine their rigidity from within.

PROGRAMME
The workshop includes participation on 26–27 June and 19–20 July, from 11 am to 6 pm, at Scuola Piccola Zattere (Fondamenta Zattere al Ponte Longo, Dorsoduro 1401). Participants may attend either of the two sessions, although participation in the full programme is recommended. The workshop will be conducted in both Italian and English.

Invited guests: Annamaria Ajmone, Sara Sguotti, Stefano Tomassini, Silvia Fanti
Witnesses: Laura Perrone, Francesco Fazzi, Gilda Cutillo, Nina Rovera

HOW TO PARTICIPATE
The workshop is free of charge and open to a maximum of 15 participants who are developing their own research practice related, in any form, to movement and performance, or who wish to deepen their understanding of the relationship between choreography, performance, and critical thought. To apply, candidates must complete the application form and submit a short biography by 24 June. Places will be allocated on a first-come, first-served basis according to the order of registration.
